The St. Lucia Shooting Association
The St. Lucia Shooting Association commenced in 1994 and has approximately 400 members to date. The St. Lucia Shooting Association is a club established for the promotion of safe firearm practices and handling.
The St. Lucia Shooting Association serves as an ideal shooting club to join to learn more about responsible and safe firearm use, shooting range safety and practices and for provisional training for firearm certification.
Licensed firearm holders or those licensed or authorized under a company’s licensed group can join the association to sharpen shooting skills, get more comfortable and confident with firearm use and gain more experience.
The St. Lucia Shooting Association is a registered member of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) so takes part in the global shooting competition. The St. Lucia Shooting Association meets on a weekly basis to train for IPSC since IPSC tournaments are broadcast for global participation.
Bordelais Shooting Range
The Bordelais Shooting Range located in Anse Canot, Dennery functions as a cold outdoor shooting range for firearm training. It is also a target shooting competition zone for The St. Lucia Shooting Association.
Big plus! Food and beverages are sold on the range and there is a washroom!
Two day shooting tournament
The St. Lucia Shooting Association hosted a two day shooting tournament which was a competition to identity the top target shooter.
The first day of the tournament was Iron and Steel Targets and the second day was Paper Targets.
The competition entailed having one shooter per target where each shooter had to be on line to fire at their target at the target bay.
The tournament was well organized and all participants knew the rules and what was expected of them.
I had fun watching the participants display their shooting skills. I witnessed some anxious members with shaky hands whilst shooting. I marvelled as I saw the gun powder being dispersed in the air and the bullet shells hit the ground- things I have only seen in movies.
Some participants were intimidated by the experienced shooters and mentioned that “Blue- Al Lionel” might win again. The members mentioned that Blue was a good shooter and had won many tournaments.
Reems Sonson as Lara Croft
This was my first time visiting a shooting range and it was rather interesting and exciting. I was called Lara Croft because of my attire. I really felt like an actress in an action movie.
It was a sunny day so the weather was fitting for the event. Hold a cap, dress appropriately and comfortably, wear closed toe shoes and hold your sunscreen when visiting an outdoor shooting range.
My oh my! I was told that the place could be noisy but I did not expect it to be that loud. Walk with your shooting gloves and ear protection- ear plugs or ear muffs and eye protection- goggles or sunglasses and ensure that they fit properly.
Basic range safety
Keep gun unloaded until you are at the fire line! Keep finger off trigger until you are ready to shoot. No discharging of firearm except at designated shooting areas and designated shooting targets. Shooters should shoot only from the firing line.
Keep gun on your person- do not keep gun unattended. Keep firearms pointed in a safe direction.
Wash hands and face after shooting to remove gun powder residue.
Drink non-alcoholic beverages before and whilst on the shooting range. Be responsible, vigilant and focused.
Have a fun time and speak with the Range Master if you have any questions.
The results are in!
