Senseless murder of a nurse

Senseless act

Imagine working as a dedicated nurse where you nurse patients back to optimum health and save lives but to only have yours taken in execution style.

Nurses selflessly go above and beyond their call of duty, work long hours and sacrifice themselves to provide quality care to their patients.

No matter what, health care workers wipe their tears, get themselves back to a good mental state and continue to work.

How are we supposed to function when our own was gunned down and killed in board day light and there was nothing that we could do to save her?

The nursing community got the distressing news that Nurse Keziah Wilson had been gunned down and killed shortly before 9 a.m. on 22nd November, 2022.

Disbelief

I shivered, got cold and got goosebumps when I heard the gruesome news. I got weak, my heart raced and my eyes were filled with tears as I called my coworkers to ask what had happened.

I heard the screams over the phone and I knew that something bad had indeed happened. I did not know what to say, I was in disbelief.

“How, why did that happen, who could do such a thing,” I asked. It was puzzling for us all.

I could not focus for the balance of the day. I spent five straight hours in a conference call with my coworkers. We tried to console each other because we could not absorb the horrific news.

Nurse Wilson

You would hear Nurse Wilson’s voice from miles away whenever she approached a unit. She was vocal and said what she had to no matter what.

She would give you a piece of her mind and move on from there with no hard feelings.

She was a hardworking, loving and jovial nurse. Even when her shift had ended, she was constantly willing to stay back to assist. She was passionate about working with babies.

Why

Saint Lucia is already facing a shortage of nurses. This is a big blow to the health care sector. One less senior, skilled and specialized nurse to report to duty and provide care to the patients.

Why kill and disrespect the same people who continuously try to save your life?

How can we not look at our patients suspiciously and wonder if they had something to do with the murder?

Our hearts and heads are heavy, we are numb, we are not okay and this is not okay. We cannot help but wonder who is next and how serious we should take threats from the public.

Condolences

Prayers go out to her daughter, family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time. It is not easy dealing with death of a loved one, may you find strength and comfort during this time. Her memories and contribution to the health care system will live forever.

  1. Keziah was always a straight foward individual. The last memory I had of her was reminding me I deserve more out of my profession and push myself. I was shocked, numb and angry like why??? She is very vocal any issue could have been discussed why take her life. It hurts not a way for a strong minded talented and professional young lady to go.She deserved justice. I pray she gets her justice. Sleep well Hun….

  2. I haven’t seen Keziah in at least 3 years and I can still hear her voice and see her smile. High spirit and honest nurse. Passionate about what she did. She advocated for what was right and wouldn’t let nonesense stand in the way. Condolences to her family for the loss- Hope her closest ones support the family in this hard time.

  3. I was and I am still shattered by this news. We need justice for our colleague and all the women who killed.

  4. It is indeed a very sad time. May her soul rest in peace. I pray for the safety if her daughter. It is indeed heart breaking.

  5. Numb beyond words. As a nurse working within the same hospital as she did, I am terrified for my life and my family. Though I am not sure about the evidence surrounding this incident buy I can’t help but wonder if I am next or which one of my colleagues will be next. Keziah had this infectious smile and laugh that no matter how bad your day was or what was going on, once she started laughing or you saw that smile, you had to smile or laugh back. You will be missed dearly, our nursing school class of 2014 will always remember you and your memory will live on. Sleep well…R.I.P Nurse Keziah Wilson.

    1. Sigh it is just an unfortunate event 😔. She had a radiating smile, there was never a dull moment around her expect when she would give people their business then go back to her jovial personality.
