Doctor Nola Rene

Today, we recognize Doctor Rene as a pioneer in health care for her dedication, hard work and contribution to the health care sector in Saint Lucia.

Doctor Rene grew up in La Croix Maingot, Saint Lucia and became a doctor because her background motivated her to do something different.

She always felt like being of service to others and giving of herself to others were her calling.

She engages in humanitarian work and is the co-founder of Healthy Escape.

She partakes in community work, health fairs, health drives, home visits, school visits and gives back to Saint Lucia at large.

A hero is formed

Doctor Rene returned from Taiwan in 2018 following her medical studies. She did her internship at St Jude Hospital then went to Victoria Hospital to work.

From the onset of Covid-19 in Saint Lucia, Doctor Rene worked at the Owen King European Union Hospital.

She later got transferred to the Respiratory Hospital during the peak of Covid-19 where she continues to work.

Doctor Rene has a strong work ethic. She goes the extra mile for all her patients.

She ensures that her patients and their relatives understand the diagnosis, plan of care and are satisfied with the level of care provided.

She is very passionate about her job and continuously displays her compassion. Even when she is at home and not on call, she calls the unit to inquire about the status of her patients.

Child of God

Doctor Rene loves to listen to gospel and sing along especially when she is documenting on her patients.

I once complimented her on her lovely voice and asked if she sings part-time.

We discussed her involvement in church and it was of no surprise that she is a believer, church goer and child of God.

Worshipping God is her ministry, she would not be anywhere without God.

Child of God

Patients first

I have seen Doctor Rene independently work under stressful situations on numerous occasions.

She remains dedicated to providing care even when the patients are in great distress, angry, aggressive or misbehaving.

Her calls generally are hectic, but Doctor Rene conquers them. Nurses know she orders “a lot of things” and says, “people it’s not my fault, the patient needs it!”

It is guaranteed that her documentation will be detailed when she is done with a patient. She would then say, “people you need to cover yourself!”

Zeal

Even when patients have reached the end of their journey on earth, Doctor Rene tries her best to keep them comfortable.

She is friendly, a good team player and respects all the staff.

She remains professional and polite even when irate patients and relatives are disrespectful and question her judgement.

She has excellent people skills. She knows how to converse with the vase set of people she meets even with their unique expectations and personalities. She can diffuse problems and keep the patients and their relatives at bay.

A good doctor

Humble

Most times Doctor Rene stays back to ensure that her patients are settled and everything is done for them before she leaves.

She puts in the long hours and maintains the drive to get the job done.

Her aim is to provide quality care and high customer service to the best of her abilities.

She cares about the good practice of medicine. She is genuinely interested in her job, so it positively impacts on the level of care she provides.

She is resilient and able to defeat whatever happens on her shift. That is very commendable!

Doctor Rene is a good doctor and has made a positive impact on health care in Saint Lucia. Doctor Rene is well respected, admired and appreciated by many of her colleagues.
