Aanansi ATV Tours

ATV Tour practice session

Aanansi ATV Tours is situated in the northeast part of Saint Lucia in Fond Assau, Babonneau.

Aanansi ATV Tours are available daily from 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

My friend chose the 9 a.m. tour and we were asked to arrive 15 minutes before for orientation.

The tour guide read and explained the contract which included medical conditions that might prevent someone from using the ATV.

After signing the contract, we got instructions on ATV safety measures and what to expect during the tour.

Our safety gears- helmet and googles were placed and we headed to the ATV site.

Return demonstration

Whilst at base, a safety course was done on ATV use. That was easy! All you need to know is brake, gas and how to use your strength to turn the stirring wheel!

The tour guide asked if everyone drove or rode before. I told him I do not drive nor ride and since I am not a strong driver, it is best I remain at the back.

He was amazed that I did not drive nor ride. He instructed that I remain at the front to be monitored.

I felt awkward that I would be at the front because I did not want to cause traffic nor slow down the other riders.

We did a practice session to assess how we handled the ATV and we were off to a fun filled adventure!

ATV experience

I started off by feeling extremely scared and excited as we rode off. I could not believe that I had been doing an ATV adventure! Finally, I can cross that off my bucket list!

Babonneau is a very large district filled with lush vegetation. It was a cool and cloudy day which made it ideal for riding.

As we passed through the different communities in Babonneau, we saw the locals enjoying their everyday lives. You see the best of nature in Babonneau, everywhere looks green.

Experiencing passers-by waving us along the way made me feel like a tourist!

We rode through farms and plantations on both rough and smooth road. Some of the trails were rocky and muddy with lots of water puddles. The ride on the main road with also full of potholes.

The first stop was at the old water wheel on the Marquis Estate. The tour guide explained that the water wheel was originally for the sugar industry but later used to generate electricity.

The final stop was at Grande Anse. There is a breath-taking view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Perks of the tour

The tour guide had a cooler with drinks. We did have a water break! An in-depth history was given of the places we stopped.

Adrenalin rush

I felt like a “bad gal and a daredevil!” I sped up at times and felt the thrill of the ride.

I understand why people love riding and own motorbikes. The ATV tour made me feel like I was born to ride. I need to consider getting a motorbike!

I felt liberated whilst on the ATV. My mind was clear except for ensuring safety on the road. I felt like a whole new person. As the cool air embraced my body, I felt at peace.

Due to the curvy and mountainous structure of Babonneau, I felt like I would skid off the road and go down a precipice. Some parts of the ride were terrifying especially riding through the bends and small road.

Travel light

Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Apply sunscreen and have a waterproof backpack or bag to store your phone and personal items in case it rains.

Unforgettable

My hands began hurting from tapping gas and having my fingers over brake but I had too much fun. Aanansi ATV Tours experience was worth it!

I wished we stopped by the river to take pictures, “I do not know where we were at the time nor the name of the river” but the water looked green and turquoise.

I think we most likely did not stop because our two-hour tour was almost up!

Due caution! An ATV tour is not ideal if you are pregnant, have back problems, seizures or other underlying issues that make you prone to cause accidents.
